The Britax Child Safety Incorporated has recently announced that it will conduct a safety recall on its Marathon child restraint with model numbers E9L06, E9W06, and the E906. The recall would cover Marathon Child Restraints produced from May 23, 2006 through July 28, 2006 and with a top tether lot number of KGR 01 A.

In some instances when a child exceeds 50 pounds and the vehicle manufacturer allows the use of top tether above 50 pounds what happen is during impact the top tether hook open up and have the potential to release from the tether anchor. And of course in the event of a crash the child may move forward further than what is normally allowed under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety 213. Luckily there have been no injuries reported pertaining to this issue but of course Britax would not want to that risk especially since the concern here is child safety.

Britax will also send all registered owners of the Marathon Child restraints built in between May 23, 2006 to July 28, 2006 with a top tether hook replacement. All Marathon child restraint owners must also confirm their Marathon is affected by verifying the model number, date of manufacturer and top tether hook lot number of KGR 01 A. In case you have bought a child restraint that is included in the recall, kindly be aware that the top tether must no be used with children weighing over 50 pounds until the top tether hook replacement has been installed. In case the repair is completed that is the only time that the Marathon Child Restraint can be used with the top tether until the child reaches 65 pounds or until the recommended weight allowed by the vehicle manufacturer for top tether use.
